What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prevention Specialist position at Counseling Services Of Lancaster?
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Prevention Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates and/or provides alcohol and other drug education awareness programming for the Lancaster County School district, community groups, and specific target groups
2. Prepares and submits statistical data, progress reports, deliverables, etc. as required by local, state, and federal officials, regulatory agencies, and funders
3. Publicizes Counseling Services of Lancaster prevention programming through media, community awareness projects, and other available avenues
4. Develops, maintains, and serves on community coalitions that plan effective prevention programming to target specific community issues, and networks with other agencies, public school officials, community leaders, law enforcement, etc.
9. Maintains state certifications to ensure compliance with block grant requirements; maintains personal credentialling and training records.
10. Attends DAODAS quarterly prevention meetings or designates staff to do so; attends training as required to remain informed of current ATOD trends, etc. and provides training and education on related issues to individuals and groups
11. Complies with all state and federal laws governing patient privacy and confidentiality
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in the social/behavioral sciences, public health, or related field.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Exceptional reading, writing, and speaking in both English and Spanish language.
Working knowledge of referral resources and processes; working knowledge of principles of human development; knowledge of chemical dependency; considerable knowledge of prevention theories and techniques; considerable knowledge of community networking
Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; considerable skill in presenting ideas to youth; skill in organizing youth to accomplish set goals.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisor, other agencies, schools and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain confidences; ability to maintain detailed and accurate records and data; ability to work under pressure and with frequent interruptions
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain one
Must be certified as Prevention Specialist within three years of employment and maintain certification thereafter
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.33 - $23.28 per hour
