General Responsibilities:

§ Maintain certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR at all times during employment.

§ Remain current with any additional required certifications or training (e.g., AED, water safety).

§ Maintain a working knowledge of all safety measures, emergency procedures, and rescue skills.

§ Approach lifeguarding proactively, staying vigilant and scanning the pool area at all times.

§ Respond immediately to any distress signals or emergencies, performing lifesaving measures or administering first aid as necessary.

§ Enforce pool rules consistently and fairly, using good judgment to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.

§ Keep members and guests safe by ensuring all activities in the pool are done safely (i.e., no horseplay, safe diving practices).

§ Be aware of environmental factors (weather, temperature) and adjust procedures accordingly to maintain safety.

§ Prevent accidents before they happen by identifying risky behaviors or unsafe conditions and take proactive steps to eliminate these risks.

§ Keep a positive attitude and maintain professional conduct, offering assistance when needed while creating a safe and friendly environment.

Physical and Mental Wellness:

§ Ensure personal physical fitness and readiness to perform rescues or assist others as needed.

§ Arrive well-rested and sober for every shift to ensure full mental and physical capacity to perform duties.

§ Never report to work if you are unwell (physically or mentally), as it may impact your ability to provide proper safety oversight.

§ Stay hydrated and take regular breaks when necessary to ensure high performance during long shifts.

§ Keep all personal protective equipment (PPE), such as sunscreen and sunglasses, in good condition and use them regularly.

On the Job Attire and Equipment:

§ Wear the appropriate guard suit, ensuring it is clean and in good condition.

§ Always bring and wear protective sunglasses, a hat/visor, and sunscreen for adequate sun protection.

§ Keep a water bottle on hand at all times to stay hydrated while on duty.

§ Ensure footwear is worn while on the deck for safety, especially in wet conditions.

§ Keep a towel for personal use on hand during shifts, especially for quick clean-ups or emergencies.

§ Ensure all necessary lifeguard equipment is brought to each shift, including a whistle, rescue tube, and first aid supplies.

Professionalism and Teamwork:

§ Treat ALL staff and members with the utmost respect and professionalism.

§ Communicate clearly and calmly with other lifeguards, management, and members.

§ Collaborate with fellow lifeguards to ensure a cohesive team approach to pool safety.

§ Stay alert and actively communicate with other lifeguards, especially during busy hours or when multiple situations require attention.

§ Handle conflicts or confrontations with members in a respectful manner, de-escalating potential issues where possible.

§ Take responsibility for the well-being of the team, ensuring that they are not overworked and are rotating regularly.

§ Assist in training and mentoring new lifeguards or staff, ensuring they understand their roles and responsibilities.

Pool Maintenance:

§ Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the pool area by performing daily tasks, such as vacuuming the pool, cleaning pool toys, and picking up any debris around the pool deck.

§ Regularly inspect the pool deck for potential safety hazards such as slippery spots, loose tiles, or debris.

§ Check pool chemistry (pH, chlorine levels, etc.) every 2 hours to ensure safe water quality.

§ Report any safety hazards (e.g., broken equipment, faulty lights, missing signs) immediately to management.

§ Keep pool furniture (chairs, tables) clean and in good condition. Take care of any spill clean-ups or sweeping required during your shift to maintain a tidy and safe environment.

§ Maintain awareness of weather conditions and address any potential impacts on the pool's safety (e.g., thunderstorms, high winds).

Communication & Reporting:

§ Report any incidents or injuries (even minor) to the Aquatics Director immediately and document them as per club procedures.

§ Communicate with management about any concerns or issues that arise during your shift, including staffing issues, equipment failures, or member behavior concerns.

§ Immediately alert management or security about any serious incidents, such as fights, theft, or emergencies outside of normal pool rules.

§ Provide regular feedback to management about pool operations, guest behaviors, or areas for improvement.

§ Attend in-services and staff meetings regularly to stay informed of policy changes, new procedures, or important updates.

Handling Special Situations:

§ Manage pool area disruptions, such as loud or unsafe behavior, calmly and assertively, and escalate to management when needed.

§ Provide assistance to vulnerable guests, such as those with disabilities, elderly members, or children.

§ Maintain constant awareness of children in the pool, and ensure they are following safety rules (e.g., no running, no unsupervised diving).

§ Ensure proper behavior during pool activities (e.g., swimming lessons, water aerobics), and make adjustments to ensure safety during these events.

Pay: From $11.99 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
