What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childcare Classroom Floater position at Countryside Ymca?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childcare Classroom Floater will work closely with the teachers in all classrooms to help maintain ratio, assist with activities, lunch time, cleaning or any tasks assigned. They will help to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the children in the center and the classrooms.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists all teachers with the daily operations of the program. Helps to maintain ODJFS classroom ratios and upholds high standards of safety.
- Cares for and attends to the needs of children at the facility including dressing, feeding, and monitoring their activities, learning and playtime.
- Encourages children's emotional, social, and physical development, and positive self-concept.
- Monitors signs of emotional and developmental issues in children and notifies parents, guardians, or authorities of concerns when necessary.
- Implements developmentally appropriate disciplinary measures to maintain control in the classroom and facility.
- Teaches children personal and healthy habits such as eating, resting, and personal hygiene.
- Cleans and sanitizes toys, furniture, and play equipment.
- Supports co-teachers with records on individual children including daily observations, activities, meals served, and medications administered.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills with parents, teachers, and other childcare workers.
- Ability to be patient and understanding when working with children and interacting with parents.
- General knowledge of childcare principles and procedures.
- Ability to relate to children and make the childcare facility an enjoyable atmosphere.
- Knowledge of early childhood teaching strategies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Will be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.

EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent required, with a minimum of one years prior experience working with children (preferred). Certification in first aid and CPR preferred, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and must be maintained by obtaining recertification as necessary. Must pass a criminal background check.
