Childcare Teacher-Preschool Full Time
POSITION SUMMARY: Our Preschool teachers work closely with the Lead Teacher to achieve the mission of Countryside YMCA and associated child care licensing agencies in the State of Ohio.
Essential Functions:
Supervision and Safety
- Maintain constant supervision of children to ensure safety
- Follow all Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) required ratios
- Implement emergency and safety procedures as required
- Conduct regular safety checks of classroom equipment and materials
- Report any safety concerns or incidents immediately to supervisor
Educational Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in planning developmentally appropriate and engaging activities for the children following Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards
- Implement lesson plans that support children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
- Maintain classroom organization and prepare educational materials
- Document children's progress through observations and assessments
- Adapt teaching methods to meet children's individual needs and learning styles
Health and Wellness
- Follow proper handwashing and sanitation procedures
- Assist with toileting needs and diaper changing as required
- Monitor children's health and report concerns to parents and supervisor
- Maintain current First Aid, CPR, and Communicable Disease certifications
- Follow food safety guidelines during meals and snacks
Communication
- Maintain communication with parents about their child's activities and development
- Document daily activities, incidents, and observations
- Participate in parent conferences as requested
- Collaborate with co-teachers and supervisors
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions
Administrative
- Track attendance and maintain accurate records
- Complete required documentation for licensing compliance
- Follow all center policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of children and family information
- Keep current with required professional development hours

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year of prior experience working with children is preferred. Certification in first aid and CPR preferred, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and must be maintained by obtaining recertification as necessary. Must pass a criminal background check.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills with parents, teachers, and other childcare workers.
- Ability to be patient and understanding when working with children and interacting with parents.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles and procedures.
- Ability to relate to children and make the childcare facility an enjoyable atmosphere.
- Knowledge of early childhood teaching strategies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Will be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.
