What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gymnastics Junior Camp Counselor position at Countryside Ymca?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Junior Gymnastics Camp Counselor will be in direct supervision of a group of children and will be responsible for planning activities for that group of children on a daily basis.
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 16 years of age. CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Helps campers of varied ages have fun, learn, explore, and make new friends in camp activities including Gymnastics, Ninja and Cheer.
- Assist in implementing program activities in the assigned area.
- Help campers adjust and grow in skills and in relationships with one another
- Support a safe and healthy environment for all campers - follow all safety policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Interact with the campers at all times, participate in activities alongside the campers
- Participate in all camp-wide activities and special events
- Participate in staff trainings, meetings, and conferences as required
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Be available to work from the week before camp begins for training to the end of the final week of the season
- Ability to work well with others; take guidance and direction; be enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
- Knowledge of basic skills required to teach and/or supervise gymnastics campers
- Able to effectively communicate with children and parents
- Understand and be committed to working with diverse population and to Y character development
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time in a variety of settings and weather conditions
- Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
- Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
- Must have visual acuity to observe all children
