Gymnastics/Ninja Instructor
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Gymnastics & Ninja Staff are responsible for providing a safe, stimulating class environment while displaying a positive, dynamic attitude that encourages children’s self esteem.
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 15 years of age, High School Diploma or currently enrolled. 1-2 years of related experience as a gymnast or instructor preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches gymnastics or ninja skills in a safe, caring and stimulating environment by constantly supervising and interacting with the participants.
- Displays a positive, dynamic attitude that encourages children’s self-esteem.
- Incorporates the YMCA's mission of developing a healthy mind, body, and spirit into recreation programs
- Exercises good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
- Administers discipline consistent with the Code of Conduct Policy.
- Assists in the development of methods of operation. Researches and develops new ideas and strategies for classes taught.
- Communicates and interacts effectively with parents and staff.
- Maintains proper records of children’s attendance.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of the gym.
- Works scheduled hours, calling subs and Gymnastic Director when unable to work scheduled hours.
- Attends all training sessions required by Ralph J. Stolle Countryside YMCA and Gymnastics Director.
- Assists in Scholarship Fund Raising activities.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and reports safety issues to the Gymnastics Director and Risk Management.
- Other Duties as assigned or required by business necessity.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to demonstrate basic gymnastics and ninja skills.
Reliable and punctual attendance.
Must be creative with strong verbal and written communication skills
Must have the ability to supervise students with control, enthusiasm and proper safety precautions.
Employees age 18 and older must pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of indoor settings. Noise level will vary depending on the activity level in the gymnastics center. Role also may require carrying, kneeling, pushing, sitting, climbing, lifting, running, stooping, crouching, pulling, standing and walking.
