POSITION SUMMARY: The Childwatch Supervisor’s responsibility is to guide, train and direct Child Watch staff members while maintaining high quality of center safety, effective sign-in area procedures and effective communication with parents and staff. The Supervisor sets the standard for other Childwatch staff members as it relates to supervising and caring for children in this area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establishes and maintains a safe and healthy environment in the Child Watch area.
- Reliable and punctual attendance; is available to work a flexible schedule including working weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Assists in the hiring, scheduling and training of Childwatch Attendants
- Oversees the Child Watch Policies and Procedures.
- Monitors the Sign-in and Sign-out sheet.
- Handles and resolves member complaints.
- Posts necessary information to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the room and uses disinfectant sprays/wipes accordingly.
- Maintains an orderly play environment; Implements hands-on play to develop positive self-esteem and social skills.
- Supports children’s social and emotional development and provides positive guidance.
- Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
- Communicates with children at the development level.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Minimum 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with children is preferred. Must have a positive and professional attitude and willingness to commit to the mission of the YMCA. Must hold CPR/First Aid/AED certification at time of hire or ability to be certified within a reasonable amount of time after hire date.
REQUIRED SKILLS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills with members and co-workers; Meets and greets all members, guests, staff and volunteers with a smile and hello.
- Makes eye contact, uses member, guest or child’s name whenever possible and ensures questions about programs and procedures are answered.
- Shows patience and understanding when working with children and interacting with parents, establishing trust with both parties.
- Oversees all cleaning responsibilities.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred.
- Acts professionally in all situations.
- Completes required training and professional development activities.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Keeps the room orderly by ensuring things are put away in the correct places; respect the toys/equipment and notify supervisor of damaged or broken items.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of standing, stooping and frequent bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- May be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.
- Noise level is moderate to loud
