Veteran's Connect Personal Trainer
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Veterans Connect Personal Trainer is responsible for promoting fitness and wellness to veterans engaged in the Veterans Connect program. The trainer must understand and have a commitment to serving the general population in their pursuit of health and well-being; be proficient in developing and facilitating safe, well-planned individual and small group sessions; be able to build positive relationships with participants and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the Veterans Connect Coordinator to develop group camaraderie with the end goal of improving participants’ fitness, wellness and mental health.
- Plans safe, effective workout sessions and teaches proper form and breathing techniques during physical exertion.
- Gathers baseline data to determine participant health and fitness levels.
- Maintains client records and communicates with participants in a timely manner.
- Conducts body composition testing.
- Ensures that YMCA personal training policies are adhered to by coworkers and clients.
- Follows all safety and risk management protocols and reports any safety issues to the supervisor.
- Assists in the promotion of the YMCA personal training program and the annual campaign.
- Maintains a clean work environment and equipment, including proper use of equipment.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Other duties as assigned and required by business necessity.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age and a military veteran
- Nationally recognized personal training or group fitness certification
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Trainings or must complete at first opportunity after hire.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Ability to motivate and promote health and wellness to program participants
- Ability to relate well to participants of varying ages and fitness levels
- Flexible schedule. Early morning, evening, and weekend hours.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to work with varying wellness levels and ages
- Organizational skills to track client progress
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations; render necessary assistance during emergency situations.
- Must be able to engage strangers in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Must pass a criminal background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, bend, stoop, reach, squat. May have prolonged periods of physical exertion including running, lifting and stretching..
