What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic/Welder/Machinist - Highway position at County of Adams?
Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding all vehicles and equipment serviced by the Highway Department Shop, fabricating parts, welding materials, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Shop Supervisor.

Maintains repairs, and or rebuilds all of the vehicles and equipment serviced by the Highway Department Shop.

Performs welding operations.

Fabricates parts not available commercially.

Changes filters, lubricates, and changes fluids on vehicles and equipment.

Performs equipment maintenance and safety checks associated with vehicles and equipment.

Performs public relations duties as necessary.

Responds to emergencies and weather events requiring road maintenance.

Maintains supply inventory regarding hand tools for proper repair and maintenance of vehicles and construction equipment.

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in equipment repair and maintenance, gasoline and diesel engines, welding, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates/Technical degree preferred. Possession of Work Zone Flagger and Class C Fuel certification upon hire. Possession of Commercial Driver's License with A, B, C, Air Brake, and "N" Tanker endorsements. Obtain Mine Safety and Health Administration, Confined Spaces, and Forklift training within 1 year of hire. Valid driver's license in the State of Wisconsin.
Thorough knowledge of County and department policies and procedures to include emergency and inclement weather policies; thorough knowledge of vehicle and equipment electrical systems; knowledge of filters and lubrication fluids; thorough knowledge of small and large engines; ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects; attention to detail and ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; ability to weld and fabricate parts; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to operate and use standard office equipment; knowledge and ability to use standard office and position-specific software; ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other departments and the general public.
