DESCRIPTION
THE POSITION :
Under general direction, to plan, implement and monitor a comprehensive Office / Department safety and accident prevention program; and to perform other related duties as required.

THE VACANCIES :
We are currently recruiting to establish a countywide eligible list that will be used by any County department or agency needing to fill a vacancy in this classification. There are immediate vacancies in the Probation Department and the Sherriff's Office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education :
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public health, occupational health, industrial hygiene, environmental health, or a closely related field.
Experience :
The equivalent of four (4) years of full-time experience in a position responsible for a comprehensive safety and accident prevention program in an organization with a large and diverse employee group.
License :
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
NOTE : The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies :
Knowledge of :
- Occupational health, safety, and accident prevention principles and practices.
- Applicable features of the California Occupational Safety and Health Act, the California Worker's Compensation Insurance Laws, and County, State, and Federal Hazardous Waste Disposal Regulations.
- California and local traffic laws.
- Fire Prevention and suppression techniques and equipment.
- Methods of investigating accidents and conducting hearings.
- Red Cross First Aid.
- Current ergonomic practices.
