What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at COUNTY OF BLOUNT?
Under general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian maintains a clean working environment for all staff and visitors at multiple County facilities. This is a part-time position working 29-hours weekly, evening shift. To maintain the cleanliness of County facilities a comprehensive approach including regular cleaning schedules, proper cleaning supplies, staff training and regular inspections is essential. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Sweep, vacuum, and mop offices, hallways, stairwells, restrooms and common areas on a daily basis;
- Empty trash cans and remove debris from common areas and grounds as necessary;
- Dust and sanitize countertops, windowsills, tables, sinks, kitchen appliances, and other surfaces as needed;
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and stock with the appropriate supplies;
- Vacuum carpeted rooms and common areas according to established schedules;
- Clean windows and glass doors;
- Replace light bulbs and perform other routine maintenance activities when required; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
It is mandatory for Custodian to:
- Promote a culture of cleanliness and orderliness;
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify areas that need attention and ensure that cleaning standards are being met;
- Potentially use or repair small, light equipment, such as power tools;
- Organize and communicate effectively;
- Maintain constructive and collabrative working relationships with others; and
- Cooperate with fellow employees as a team member to keep County facilities clean and well-maintained.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
- High School Diploma;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, squat, lift, carry, walk, push, pull, reach and manipulate objects, vacuum, custodian carts, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating custodial equipment, such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, swiping, scrubbing, and twisting. The position requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, and visual acuity. Appropriate care for and store custodial equipment and cleaning supplies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
