POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs supervisory correctional work and is responsible for security and operations of the Bucks County Correctional Facility, Women’s Correctional Facility and/or the Community Corrections Center. This supervisory position provides management to correctional staff and offenders assigned to all levels of custody under the supervision of the department to ensure compliance with security regulations and public safety. This is accomplished through adherence to facility policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Ensure all Sergeants and/or Corrections Officers are on duty per schedule, in proper uniform.
- Attend Roll Call
- Unit management
- Train, mentor, coach and monitor correctional officers and sergeants. Make corrections as needed.
- Make frequent tours of assigned modules to observe and document the performance of Sergeants and/or Corrections Officers
while conducting routine institutional operations.
- Ensure appropriate security and sanitary conditions are consistently maintained.
- Monitor video surveillance
- Inform subordinates of all new regulations or changes and communicates special orders to the Corrections Officers.
- Schedule and organize cell searches, inspections of work areas, dispensary, and dining hall to ensure their constant supervision.
- Overall responsibility for admission/discharge/transfer of offenders within the facilities.
- Reconcile offender headcount received from Officers and resolves any discrepancies.
- When assigned, ensure accountability of offenders involved in community activities.
- Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents, submits written reports of the findings, and appears in court as appropriate.
- Investigate offender grievances and submits written reports.
- Evaluate and document job performance of cadets and probationary employees.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and offenders.
- Respond quickly and calmly in an emergency.
- Conduct Loudermill meetings when assigned.
- Conduct training when assigned.
- Adapt to changing technological innovations.
- May be required to pass annual weapons qualifications.
- Ensure all reports submitted are accurate and complete.
- Monitor CorreTrak
- May be assigned to any of the Department buildings
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. - Seven (7) years’ experience in a correctional setting, with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience at the rank of Sergeant or equivalent.
- Bachelors’ degree in criminal justice/related field or a high school diploma/equivalent with one year of correctional supervisory
experience; or any other combination of education and experience that is acceptable.
- May be required to pass a pre-promotion written and/or video Ergonomics exam.
- Must participate in the merit selection process before the senior selection board.
- Must have excellent communication skills when interacting with the general public, correctional staff, and offenders.
- Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations governing the security of a correctional or detention facility (Title 37/ACA).
- Thorough knowledge of housekeeping and sanitary measures required in the facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of the care and use of firearms, batons, OC spray, Taser, and other related equipment.
- Keyboard skill of 20 WPM with knowledge of computer programs which include but not limited to Microsoft Office, OMSE, Live Scan
and EMS.
