The Nurse Aide cares for residents in a nursing home or other medical facility under the direction of the nursing and medical staff. |
- Receive daily report and assignments from Charge Nurse.
- Utilize proper Infection Control practices (e.g., standard precautions, hand washing, correct glove use).
- Change sheets and make beds.
- Provide total or assisted care to residents, including:
- Provide and document morning and evening care, tub, shower or bed bath.
- Shaving, hair care and nail care.
- Mouth care / denture care.
- Provide and document preventative skin care.
- Distribute, prepare and collect meal trays.
- Position resident properly.
- Assist residents who are unable to feed themselves.
- Monitor and document food and fluid intake.
- Provide and document nourishment intake.
- Provide routine care of feeding tubes.
- Provide fresh ice water every shift and when needed.
- Help transfer resident to and from toilet.
- Provide incontinence care when needed.
- Provide routine care of urine catheter / urostomy and document same.
- Provide routine care of colostomy and document same
- Maintain bowel and bladder training programs and essential documentation required of nurse aide.
- Maintain bowel record.
- Turn and reposition resident (maintain documentation).
- Move and lift resident (bed, chair, stand).
- Use mechanical lifts for transfers.
- Assist with restorative ambulation programs and maintain documentation.
- Provide assistance for ambulation or transportation to activities, therapy, hairdresser or other appointments.
- Obtain vital signs.
- Obtain weight.
- Answer call bells.
- Provide post-mortem care.
- Maintain a neat and clean resident environment.
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Valid Nurse Aide Certification.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Accurate and detail oriented with effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and proceed with objectives
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to establish priorities and remain focused on daily operations.

- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of county management.
- Ability to follow protocols to handle and resolve routine problems along set parameters.

- Additional education towards a nursing degree or related field.
- Six or more months of job-related experience
- Knowledge and understanding of County of Chester policies and procedures.
