Join the County of Colusa, Public Works Department, as a Road Maintenance Worker I and play a vital role in the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the County’s roads, bridges, and related structures. This entry-level position offers a hands-on opportunity to work with light to moderately heavy equipment, assist in road construction, and perform essential roadside maintenance. You’ll gain valuable experience operating a variety of machinery, including trucks and power tools, while contributing to the overall infrastructure. This recruitment will be used to fill four (1) vacant positions and establish an eligibility list to fill future openings without reposting.

What's this Job All About?
As part of a critical road maintenance team, you’ll help maintain roads across diverse areas—from the eastern, lower agricultural heartlands to the rolling hills of the western County. Your responsibilities will include patching roads, filling potholes, clearing debris, mowing, and managing road closures during inclement weather. You’ll also assist with major construction projects, help direct traffic around detours, and maintain large vehicles and machinery. This position provides the opportunity to be an integral part of the County's public works efforts while gaining hands-on experience in road maintenance.

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Experience:
No experience is required.

Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Class A driver’s license and may require endorsements and certificates.

The salary range above consists of 15 steps. Steps 1-6 are annual merit steps with approximately 5% difference between each step, based on successful performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps, requiring 2 years of satisfactory performance at the previous step. Steps 7-14 provide 2.5% increases, while Step 15 offers a 5% increase. The final salary offered will depend on the applicant's experience and qualifications, ranging from steps 1 to 15. 

Salary : $39,660 - $65,088
