A. MAJOR DUTIES: Weed Employee/Sign Employee
· Identify and spray noxious weeds in county right-of-way and riverbanks as required.
· Re-inspect infested sites for compliance by landowners.
· Responsible for county road signs including inventory, repair, and replacement.
· Complete necessary paperwork including compliance with state and federal law.
· Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and assist in servicing and repairs.
· Attend required training.
· Perform manual labor such as patching, sign repair, erecting and taking down snow fence, bridge and culvert repair, loading and unloading materials.
· Operate general maintenance equipment such as trucks, rollers, front-end loaders, motor graders, snow plows, draglines, backhoes, sanders, tractor/mowers, etc.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Road Foreman.
B. TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:
· Identify and spray noxious weeds, prepare weed control chemicals.
· Maintain necessary paperwork for compliance with state and federal law.
· Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and assist in servicing and repairs.
· Attend required training.
· Conduct sign inventory.
· Perform manual labor including patching, sign repair, snow fence erection, bridge and culvert repair, and material handling.
· Operate various general maintenance equipment.
· Perform related work as required.
C. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
· Education or experience sufficient to perform duties and meet required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
· Must possess an EPA Commercial Applicator’s license.
· Category 07 Right of Way certification required.
· CDL (Commercial Driver's License) required.
D. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIRED ON THE JOB:
· Knowledge of noxious weeds and control methods.
· Ability to maintain paperwork and ensure compliance.
· Familiarity with equipment operation and maintenance.
· Understanding of safety practices and procedures.
· Ability to follow instructions and perform manual labor.
· Proficiency in operating various maintenance equipment.
E. WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Exposure to weed control chemicals.
· Heavy lifting, outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
· Exposure to noise, heat, and grease.
· Operation of equipment with moving parts.
F. COMPENSATION:
· Paid Hourly Wage negotiated for Grader Operator under Road Department Union Contract.
· Overtime pay for hours exceeding 40 per week.
· County-furnished vehicle for inspections, notices, and training.
Vehicle shall be furnished by the County to inspect noxious weed infestations, serve individual notice/s and attend training. Each personal commute with a county-owned vehicle will be valued at $1.50 each way ($3.00 per round trip) and is taxable to the employee as wages.
