Child Welfare Specialist

Job Summary

The County of Dare, NC is seeking a skilled professional to oversee staff, provide training and mentoring, review case files, and consult on complex cases. As a Social Worker IV, you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and safety of children and families in our community. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of social work principles and practices.

Responsibilities

• Meet with children and families to assess their needs and risk of harm.
• Identify needs and make referrals for medical, psychological, and educational care.
• Gather and maintain accurate information in emotionally charged environments and prepare reports accordingly.
• Prepare court documents and testify in court hearings.
• Work with families to develop treatment plans and encourage them to achieve their goals.
• Screen reports of child abuse, neglect, and dependency and assign cases to workers.
• Cover intake of community reports and perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of social problems and institutions.
• Ability to identify social needs and plan work accordingly.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
• Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
