What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service Representative position at County of Dare?
Performs intermediate administrative support work receiving, processing, recording, and accounting for utility revenue, taxes, and various other fees, processing payments, preparing connection, disconnection, and transfer orders, preparing and maintaining records and files, entering data, assisting the public, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
- Assists customers with utility bill questions; collects various revenues; handles delinquent accounts; responds to routine inquiries and/or complaints; prepares and balances daily cash reports and verifies accuracy.
- Generates new service orders; processes and updates completed service orders; notifies Public Utilities field personnel to make connections, disconnections, re-reads and notifies Public Utilities field personnel of high priority items; establishes and closes accounts and other services appropriately.
- Processes tax and privilege license payments; assists customers with completing forms for making installment payments of utilities; accepts installment payments and applies to appropriate accounts.
- Enters new accounts into system; makes changes to existing customer accounts as necessary.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- General knowledge of clerical and accounting terminology, methods, procedures, and equipment.
- General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.
- General knowledge of utility service connection and termination procedures and customer billing, collecting, and adjusting methods and procedures.
- General knowledge of personal computer operation and associated software.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to follow detailed work procedures.
- Ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
- Skill in the use of a variety of office and data processing equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, associates, department heads, supervisors, other County employees and the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One to three (1-3) years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver’s license.
