What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Park Security position at County of Door?
This position works from May thru October. Performs security on all Door County Parks and associated properties. Work shift is variable, but generally from 1:00p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This is a two-person position encompassing 7 days a week. Schedule subject to change. Regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at designated work locations, on the assigned or scheduled days and hours is expected. This position is responsible for providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communications.
Candidates will have to pass a functional capacity test prior to hire.
Essential Job Functions- Check boat launch activity and verify payment of fees by users.
- Issue warning tickets and citations as needed for non-payment of boat launch fees and/or violation of other park ordinances. Communicate as necessary with Facilities and Parks Administrative Assistant regarding warning tickets and citations.
- Check restrooms for cleanliness and vandalism. Clean as necessary.
- Check lighting and safety lighting within parks.
- Pick up any garbage within parks and place in receptacles. Haul trash from receptacles and place in dumpster as necessary.
- Monitor users for adherence to park ordinances.
- Responsible for taking sound readings at John Miles County Park during Stock Car racing season.
- Update Maintenance Technician-Parks Lead on daily activities and encounters. Provide notes on Park items that need to be addressed, such as broken items, vandalism, environmental damage, patron safety concerns, etc.
General Job Functions
- Monitor Security in County Parks.
- Monitor Boat Launches and ensure compliance with park polices.
- Observe after dark operation of facilities.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, with the ability to maintain it.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of park rules and ordinances.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and make independent decisions concerning enforcement matters and traveling to various County parks.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate, both verbally and in writing.
- Capable of using tact, courtesy and good judgment in dealing with the public, co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- General use of computers and smart phones.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
