What are the responsibilities and job description for the Highway Maintenance Superintendent position at COUNTY OF DUNN?
The Highway Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for directing, planning, organizing, and coordinating the operations and functions of the Dunn County Road Department. Incumbents are responsible for managing maintenance functions and coordinating projects. Responsibilities may include prioritizing roads for maintenance needs; creates and maintains departmental budget; develops planning recommendations; supervising assigned staff and operations; and calculating project costs.
Minimum of 5 years of road maintenance/road construction with an additional 5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience required.
High School Diploma or GED
Licensing Requirements:
North Dakota Class A Commercial Driver's License
- Organizes, plans and directs the County Road & Bridge Department to include culvert replacement and maintenance, snow and ice removal, weed mowing and other activities associated with road maintenance.
- Advises the County Commission on road maintenance issues and proposals.
- Creates, maintains, and follows budget guidelines for every calendar year. Forecasting upcoming projects and staffing needs. Typical budget is approximately $40 million.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials and employees, officials of other governmental jurisdictions, other professional engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Works with engineers and contractors in the planning of road projects.
- Analyzes and authorize project codes and billing.
- Oversees training and enforces safety and regulations.
- Researches and drafts specifications for equipment and vehicles and authorizes purchases.
- Handles employee relations issues including disciplinary action and performance evaluations, approves timecards, conducts job interviews, and makes hiring decisions.
- Ensures appropriate levels of staffing for all season and projects, conducts interviews and assists in maintaining job descriptions.
