BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER SERVICES

The Substance Use Disorder Services (SUDS) Program leads efforts in our community to prevent and reduce the impact of substance use disorders by developing, administering, and implementing evidence based approaches to youth prevention, treatment, and recovery programs in El Dorado County.

YOUTH PREVENTION COORDINATION IDEAL CANDIDATE

El Dorado County is seeking a SUDS Youth Prevention Coordinator to join our team in Placerville. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth and those that support youth such as teachers, counselors, school resource officers, and volunteers while in a school, counseling center or other community setting. This person will be able to research and present information regarding local and county assessments, data and trends and develop and implement target strategies that are focused on the prevention of substance use among our youth.

Our ideal candidate is an energetic and compassionate community leader, is comfortable with public speaking, and has excellent written / verbal communication skills. This person should possess high organization / administrative skills with great time management. This individual is highly relational and flexible, able to handle confidential information while being organized and able to meet documentation deadlines.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to :

  • Address community level health education needs through development of education / instructional programs that focus on the social determinants of disease and general wellness of population groups.
  • Conduct various community assessment activities to determine health related knowledge deficits, resource availability, and community level strengths.
  • Initiate or participate in building coalitions of community agencies, organizations, groups, and individuals; organize and coordinate efforts to further health education goals and programs; provide staff support and technical assistance.
  • Select, develop, and create educational resources and materials.
  • Evaluate the literacy levels of the target population and the appropriateness of resource materials.
  • Prepare, deliver, and evaluate education presentations utilizing both instructor and client centered methods designed for individuals, groups, social, print, and live media; develops, facilitates, and coordinates the application of continuing education units as appropriate to the subject matter and / or which contributes to County employee professional development.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary planning teams, general staff meetings, employee development opportunities, intra- and extra-county networking activities, and community oriented stakeholder groups.
  • Prepare correspondence, minutes, activity summaries, and statistical reports; prepare program narratives, enter program information into a variety of databases including web-based systems; prepare program evaluation reports; monitor compliance to program contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate and conduct program evaluation activities.
  • Attends various meetings, committees, and conferences related to program goals and objectives.

    Human Resources will assess your application to determine if you are minimally qualified using the following qualifications :

    Possession of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in health education or promotion, community health, health sciences, or a closely related field;

    Two (2) years of experience providing professional support to a health education, promotion, or prevention program, or a substance use disorder treatment program; or

    Possession of a Certified Health Education Specialist certification issued by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. or a Certified in Public Health certification issued by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

    Possession of a masters degree in public health education, promotion, or prevention.

    The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Health Educator. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time, part time, and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
