Acceptable Experience and Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or closely related field with an emphasis in baseball or softball facility to include event management athletic program development or management and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of event planning, including three (3) years in a supervisory capacity;
or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Essential Duties
Provides vision and leadership in administering a comprehensive special events and sports program including scheduling facilities accordingly; overseeing events, leagues, and programs scheduled; coordinates/organizes employees to prepare for various sporting events;
Plans, schedules, and oversees leagues as assigned; Orders/follow ups for all equipment and supplies, and for leagues and tournaments;
Supervises department employees, including assigning and reviewing work, training, providing input on performance evaluations, and making recommendations on hiring, terminating, and disciplining personnel;
Plans, directs, and coordinates, through subordinate-level staff, the department work plan; meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; and reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures;
Monitors and tracks employee work times;
Demonstrates leadership and ability to deliver efficiency and quality at the highest of standards;
Motivates and works with employees to correct deficiencies;
Maintains personnel records;
Assists with managing the career development and performance of staff assigned;
Participates in the development of policies and procedures; and monitors work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; and makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards and procedures;
Monitors activity reports on a daily basis;
Processes requisitions;
Maintains records for inventory and damaged items and arranges for disposal of broken/outdated equipment;
Verifies funds are up-to-date and deposits have been completed;
Assists with preparation of yearly budget;
Answers telephones and e-mails; provides answers to inquiries;
Controls the accounting, payment and revenue related to events; prepares daily accountability of monies collected and makes bank deposits;
Assists out of town promoters with event bookings and event set up information;
Promotes sport league activities around the County and the County of El Paso;
Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment though cooperative team and individual efforts.
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Must be able to work holidays, evenings, and weekends, plus flexible hours during the week.

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.
Summary of Position
The League Manager under general supervision coordinates, organizes, directs and supervises staff and activities relating to the operation of the planning and coordination of the event activities, leagues, scheduling and umpires for the facility.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles, rules, and procedures of organized competitive sports; athletic and recreational programs, objectives of public recreation and athletic programs; Principles of event planning and preparation.; sports rules and county policies; league preparation; principles of supervision, organization, administration, training, and performance evaluation; maintenance, and operation of athletic facilities; English usage, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; techniques for effective interpersonal communication; principles of effective customer service; modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment to include Windows and Microsoft based products. Skill/Ability to: plan and assign work to employees; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; provide a variety of revenue based programs in the areas of general recreation programs, athletic leagues, special events, and instructional classes; plan promote, organize, and coordinate athletic programs and events; exercise independent judgment in the application of game rules and procedures; ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding, and confidence with participants and the general public; Must be able to deal with crisis in a calm, efficient, logic manner; maintain records and develop work schedules; demonstrate leadership and ability to deliver efficiency and quality at the highest of standards; supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted during the course of work; work holidays, evenings, and weekends, plus flexible hours during the week; deal with crisis in a calm, efficient, and logical manner; pass a background investigation; Pass a Criminal Background Investigation;
