Acceptable Experience and Education
High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years experience and knowledge in the operation of a multi-million dollar Aquatic Facility with one (1) year of supervisory or in a lead role;
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
Essential Duties:
Oversees and maintains the functions, operations and monitoring of chemical usage and takes meter reading to achieve proper levels of chemicals in compliance with E.P.A- State, County/City Health regulations;
Performs preventive maintenance of pool facilities, electrical and mechanical equipment, and routine maintenance to ground areas;
Maintains the pool chemical and temperature levels designated by Health Department;
Tests and adjusts water chemistry to meet standards for oxidation and sanitation;
Maintains recirculation efficiency by backwashing according to design standards;
Checks for safety and healthful environmental conditions;
Assures that maximum bather load is not surpassed and that immersion time is observed;
Posts signs conspicuously that list safety precautions;
Establishes procedures for bacterial control;
Maintains current records, operational parameters, and procedures;
Assures operation of vacuuming the pools;
Performs preventative maintenance on plumbing systems including water faucets, sinks, showers, toilets, and urinals;
Repairs motors, lighting fixtures, and dryers;
Troubleshoots and repairs equipment;
Maintains pool heaters and chlorine storage vats;
Inspects and assures cleanliness and appearance of general pool area;
Maintains, sanitizes and cleans pool decks, drain systems, restrooms, showers to present no health or accidents hazards to users;
Provides aid to those in distress and administers first aid in the prescribed fashion;
Checks and interprets gauges, flow meters and monitors equipment for operational efficiency;
Maintains practices of operation and preventive maintenance for pumps, suction lines, drains, piping bactericidal equipment, balance tanks, valves, hair and lint skimmer traps, and flow control switches each system;
Develop emergency and accident procedures;
Communicates and develops educational programs for the pool program staff and public;
Be current in the development of new pool equipment, facility designs and operational techniques;
Orders supplies including chemicals, restroom supplies, office supplies, pool and building supplies and parts used to maintain systems; deliver supplies to outer pools as needed;
Trains and assist summer pool managers in routine maintenance pools;
Works closely with pool consultants and pool vendors;
Performs duties parallel to those of the Parks Maintenance Worker, Intermediate when not on pool duty;
Assists park mechanic in the repair of specialized equipment;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.
Summary of Position:
The Pool Maintenance Technician performs regular/daily maintenance of all electrical & mechanical equipment needed to operate the County swimming pools in a cost efficient manner.

May work weekends, holidays, and 24/7 standby
Maintains a safe and healthy work place environment;
As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.

Reports to: Groundskeeping Superintendent
Directs: This is a non-supervisory position; however, slight oversight to parks maintenance personnel.
Other: Has frequent contact with other county employees and the general public.
