Acceptable Experience and Education
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college in criminal justice, forensic science or related field preferred and/or four years of experience as an investigator;
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Minimum of the International Association for Identification (IAI) Crime Scene Certification Level I or Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Essential Duties
Responds to Crime Scenes to collect evidence;
Processes for latent prints;
Photographs scenes;
Preserves and packages evidences as required for further investigation/analysis;
Takes major case prints and elimination prints as required for evaluation and comparison;
Prepares detailed supplements on all activities in reference to crime scene;
Responds to instruction on subpoena and testifies in court;
Keeps abreast of new developments in all areas of Crime Scene Investigations and understands the requirements to qualify as an expert witness by the court;
Assists in processing homicide victims from Mexico at the Ports of Entry;
Searches fingerprint cards for expunctions or comparisons;
Conducts Latent Print Entries/Verifications, in local automated systems;
Performs latent print comparisons and evaluations, known-to-known, and unknown to known;
Is responsible for the maintenance of equipment and supplies;
Drafts supply requisitions for approval;
Researches new products to provide better capabilities in the processing and preservation of crime scenes; contacts vendors for product information;
Troubleshoots computer equipment and contacts ITD to assist with any problems;
Coordinates all field and office requests with the section Supervisor;
Demonstrates knowledge of all office equipment;
Performs duties in connection with case preparation, supplements;
Performs Custodian of Record requests such as photos/videos of cases, and faxes;
Fingerprints applicants and the general public as required;
Drafts Proposals;
Assists with developing Training Plans for newly assigned personnel;
Performs latent comparisons for law enforcement agencies and general public;
Performs investigative searches for photo-Line ups and Mug Retrieval;
Pulls arrest cards as requested;
Generates ID cards for employees and outside agencies;
Collects and disposes of bio-hazardous waste;
Maintains and updates information on infectious diseases for sections education on how to handle in the
event needed;
Photographs public relations events, as assigned;
Prepares monthly statistics of all activities;
Conducts educational and training discussions and mock crime scenes for the public, to include
school presentations;
Works with outside agencies referencing crime scene processing;
May be required to supervise and train newly assigned personnel;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts; and
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

Must be able to work "on-call" and rotating shifts Performs such other related duties as may be assigned;
As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services at the direction of their supervisor.
