Job Purpose and Objectives:
Performs general law enforcement duties in the protection of life and property within Ellis County.
Job Competencies: Essential Functions include the following. Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Schedule and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
- Patrols county and related areas to preserve law and order
- Answers a variety of calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, domestic disturbances, and other crimes
- Conducts investigations and gathers evidence
- Contacts witnesses and makes arrests
- Administers preliminary medical care to citizens
- Transports prisoners to court and testifies in court on related activities
- Serves civil court processes and warrants
- Assists federal, state, and municipal agencies with support
- Performs security checks of business and residential properties
- Prepares and serves search warrants
- Serves criminal arrest warrants
- Completes reports and records
- Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and county ordinances
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
- Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
- Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Knowledge of law enforcement techniques and federal, state, and county ordinances
- Ability to operate emergency vehicles, radios, firearms, DUI enforcement and fingerprinting equipment, and other related law enforcement equipment
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
- Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
- Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
