POSITION: Department Clerk I
DEPARTMENT: Tax Claim Bureau
LOCATION: Greene County Office Building
SALARY: $12.47/hr (SEIU PG 4)
HOURS: 8:30AM to 4:30PM - Monday through Friday
1 hour unpaid lunch – 35 hours per week
Regular full time – Non-exempt
BENEFITS: Health, Vision & Dental – First of month following date of hire
All Other Benefits – After 90 day probationary period
Excellent Time-Off Benefits
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
This is a complex, repetitive clerical position with constant public contact. The employee is involved in carrying out procedures, which require great attention to detail to assure thoroughness and accuracy. This individual must be responsible in handling large sums of money and accountable for any shortages.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
1. Collection of taxes and issuing receipts for taxpayers.
2. Answering phone inquiries from taxpayers, mortgage companies and attorneys.
3. Prepare lien certificates.
4. Accurately enters data information into the computer.
5. Must possess the ability to make correct change when handling cash payments.
6. Preparation of records for upset and judicial sales.
7. Prepares monthly reports for distribution of funds to the municipalities.
8. Files and maintains records.
9. Works courteously and effectively with the public.
10. Balance funds daily with receipts.
11. Balance tax collector reports and returns made to the Tax Claim Bureau
OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:
1. Attends meetings and trainings as required.
2. Performs other job related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Knowledge of standard office equipment, procedures and practices.
2. Conduct and actions in maintaining a harmonious working relationship.
3. Ability to write legible.
4. Ability to work courteously and effectively with the public.
5. Ability to organize work in a manner which issues smooth processing and accomplishment of complex arithmetic calculations.
6. Ability to maintain records requiring the proper organization of technical data.
7. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
8. Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.
9. Must possess the ability to make correct change and handle large amounts of cash payments.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1. Previous computer experience.
2. Proficient use of typewriter and calculator.
3. High School diploma or High School equivalency diploma.
4. Cash handling experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Works indoors in adequate work space with adequate temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
2. Works indoors with average exposure to noise, but subject to frequent disruptions and stress.
3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting and reaching necessary to carry out duties of the job.
3. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands for computer work to simple dexterity of feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job.
4. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of ten pounds.
5. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
