POSITION: Recreational Associate I/Concessions (Regular Part Time)
DEPARTMENT: Department of Recreation
SALARY: Pay Grade 3 – SEIU Bargaining Unit
Start Rate $12.19/HR (Non-Exempt)
HOURS: 29 hours per week on average
Working Lunch – Seasonal Work Shifts/Nights/Weekends
Starting and Ending to be set by Management

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
Under general supervision, performs difficult professional work overseeing the recreation concession areas and provides general assistance to the Parks and Recreation Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Oversees daily operations of concession facilities including and not limited to the Greene County Water Park, Mon View Park and Roller Rink, and Eastern Pool.
- Prepares concession facilities for opening and closing each season.
- Loads, unloads, and operates truck to transport maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment.
- May drive, operate, and transport Class C vehicles and equipment.
- Develop, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreation programs, including special events and contract services.
- Establish schedules and methods of providing recreation services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Prepare purchase requisitions; order supplies and materials; download music.
- Sets up and breaks down recreational facilities for routine use or special events; provides general assistance to event coordinators and community groups.
- Maintains simple records of activities, as requested or required by regulations.
- Responds to questions and comments from the public and communicates policy, rules, and regulations.
- Attends trainings, workshops, and classes related to job duties. May conduct personnel training on proper and safe use of equipment.
- May participate in the determination of facility needs such as personnel, equipment, and supplies in the planning and scheduling of work activities.
- May act as working leader of a crew, overseeing and coordinating work.
- Performs related work as required.
OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Maintain work, time and material records.
- May be required to maintain the facility rental schedule including and not limited to fairgrounds, pools, pavilions, park, and roller rink.
- May be required to operate cash register and/or credit card machine.
- May be required to transport and stock vending machines.
- Assist with grant writing, marketing, press releases, and promotional materials.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives instruction from Director and/or Parks and Recreation Manager through the chain of command, respectively.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
Gives instruction to concession staff, part-time, and seasonal employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be assigned duties at various site locations; be subject to call out, or work a varying work week.
- Works in outdoor environments and may be exposed to varying climatic conditions.
- May be exposed to varying noise levels, dust, fumes, pollens, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and rodent control agents.
- May perform work on slippery or uneven surfaces, on ladders or scaffolding, around moving vehicles and equipment, and equipment with moving parts.
- Employees may be required to wear a uniform and will be required to wear appropriate safety apparel and equipment.
- Works indoors in adequate office space, lighting, ventilation and temperatures.
- Normal exposure to indoor dust/dirt.
- Works in conditions of potential outbursts or disruptive behavior of general public with potential for personal physical harm.
- May perform work alone or as part of a team.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures
and follow instructions.
2. Employees are required to perform tasks requiring a relatively high degree of physical strength and endurance, stand and walk for long periods of time, reach above and below waist level, have bodily movement adequate to climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, crouch and traverse rough uneven terrain, safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, push and pull mowers and other equipment.
3. Must communicate clearly in person, by telephone and/or radio, have vision adequate to read fine print and visually identify pool clarity.
4. Must have manual dexterity to safely use equipment and tools.
5. Must be able to pay close attention to detail and to concentrate on work. Vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- EDUCATION/TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalent. May be required to pass the Serve Safe Certification, or an approved accreditation per the County discretion. Must possess a valid Pennsylvaniadriver’s license with a good driving record.

- WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one-year paid experience in park and pool concession, or a related field; or an acceptable combination of education, experience, and training determined by the County.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable
manner in order to carry out essential functions of the job.
2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with co-workers and the general public.
4. Must possess thorough knowledge of computer skills, modern office practices and procedures and equipment.
5. Must possess thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
6. Must possess the ability to exercise judgment on disposition of problems and the ability to exhibit individual initiative in carrying out assigned projects.
7. Must possess the ability to maintain a variety of records and prepare complete and accurate reports.
8. Must be able to identify chemical and pesticide labels and materials, maintain quantity and quality of, use proper procedures and handling, and make the appropriate applications, as required.
9. Common safety practices and procedures; and identify common safety hazards.
10. Uses of the vehicles, equipment, materials, power and hand tools used for the purpose of park and recreation facility maintenance.
11. Work odd and irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
12. Acquire the thorough knowledge of County policy and procedures of enforcement.
