POSITION: County Social Service Aide I
DEPARTMENT: Human Services Family Center
LOCATION: Fort Jackson Building
SALARY: $13.08/hr (SEIU PG 6)
HOURS: 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday
Regular Full Time
BENEFITS: End of 90 Day Probationary Period
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE JOB:
The Greene County Family Center Social Services Aide will provide parent education in the way of home visits, parenting classes and other community-based programs to promote the optimal development, education and health of children through supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers. This position will ensure the completion of developmental and family assessments, goal setting, and screenings while carrying out the objectives of the Family Center grant. They must maintain Parents As Teachers certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
1. Teach parenting classes while utilizing parenting curriculums that have been chosen because of their recorded ability to enhance the particular parenting skills of families.
2. Work with parents to establish family goals and document progress.
3. Maintain a caseload and provide home visitation at times which are convenient for the family. This may include evenings and weekends.
4. Provide families with appropriate information, resources, trainings and screenings during visits/ sessions. Assist with referrals and follow up as needed.
5. Become Parents As Teachers (PAT) certified and maintain certification
6. Responsible for timely and accurate data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting requirements for the Family Center program.
7. Participate in committees, special events and activities to promote and recruit participants for the program.
8. Participates in weekly supervision with supervisor.
9. Maintain client confidentiality at all times.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor or the Human Services Administration.
OTHER DUTIES OF THE JOB:
1. Ability to develop, manage and maintain relationships with others.
2. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
3. Other non-essential duties as specified by the immediate supervisor.
4. Manage program supplies and materials
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives direct supervision from the Family Center Director in regard to daily work duties.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
None.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors in adequate work space, temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
- Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress and frequent disruptions.
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
- Travels occasionally when needed to perform essential functions of job.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS;
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
3. Medium work with occasional lifting/carrying of objects.
4. Sedentary work, with occasional from coordination movements of fingers/hands to simple movements of feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties.
5. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
6. Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
7. Must be able to pay close attention to details, coordinate efficiently and concentrate on work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services related field preferred.
- Must have minimum five years’ experience working with families and young children
C. Must possess a valid PA Driver’s License and valid clearances including Criminal Record, Child Abuse and FBI.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Ability to communicate orally and through written communication.
2. Ability to understand appropriate interactions between adults and children
3. Ability to follow the Mandated Reporting Law
4. Excellent documentation skills.
5. Highly organized and detail-oriented.
6. Strong time management skills.
7. Knowledge of the Greene County human service delivery system.
8. Possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers.
9. Flexible in adapting the weekly schedule to meet the needs of the family that we will serve.
10. Possess effective interpersonal skills (e.g. nonjudgmental, objective, reflective, empathic, tactful and patient)
