As an Animal Care Technician (aka Vet Assistant), you'll work alongside our team of dedicated veterinarians to provide top-notch care to the animals in our shelter. You'll help with everything from routine check-ups to emergency care, all while making sure our furry residents feel safe, comfortable, and loved. Some of your key responsibilities will include. Assisting in animal examinations and treatments; monitoring animals for signs of illness or distress; administering vaccinations, medications, and treatments under veterinary guidance; maintaining accurate medical records for all shelter animals, and offering comfort, care, and social interaction with our sheltered animals. To thrive in this role, we seek a collaborative team player. Strong communication skills are a must, as you'll work in partnership with our veterinary team and shelter personnel to guarantee the best possible outcomes for our animals. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate will have experience as a veterinary assistant. A good understanding of animal behavior and safe animal handling is important. Proficiency in agency-specific software (Shelterluv) is a plus and must be acquired within the first six months of employment. The ability to lift and move animals weighing up to 75 pounds is necessary. You must obtain a CET (Certified Euthanasia Technician) within the initial six months of employment. A valid South Carolina Driver's License is a prerequisite, and you should be available to work a total of 29 hours per week.
