Join the largest governmental forensic laboratory in the growing Upstate of South Carolina! The Greenville County Department of Public Safety Forensic Division is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional to work in the exciting field of forensics. Greenville County desires to provide employees with a working environment that enhances their personal skills and elevates their professional goals. Utilize photography, videography, and detailed sketches to document crime scenes accurately; record and maintain comprehensive notes of all activities and evidence collected at the scene. Identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes using proper procedures to avoid contamination. Use specialized equipment and techniques to gather trace evidence, fingerprints, biological samples, and other forensic materials; conducts on-site chemical presumptive testing of evidence and other types of analysis in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and department/division policies. Package and label evidence correctly for transport to the forensic laboratory for further examination and analysis; prepare detailed and accurate reports summarizing findings and methods used during the investigation. Maintain accurate records of evidence and chain of custody to ensure legal compliance; work closely with law enforcement officers, detectives, and other first responders at crime scenes. Testify in court regarding the methods and findings from crime scene investigations, including the presentation of physical evidence. Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. Enforce federal, state, and local laws as necessary; work professionally under stressful and sometimes dangerous situations; work 12-hour rotating shifts (84-hours bi-weekly, includes 4 hours of overtime pay). Be available for on-call duties to respond to crime scenes at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. High school graduate. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must reside in South Carolina throughout employment; completion of required training and certification by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within one year of hire. Must pass firearms qualifications and maintain proficiency. Two years of experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer preferred. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent combination of skill and experience. Crime Scene certification by the International Association for Identification. Working knowledge of digital photography equipment, latent print processing techniques and law enforcement technology. Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques, rules of evidence and courtroom testimony experience. Educational Incentive: 5% increase for an associate's degree or a 10% increase for a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, forensic science or criminal justice. Experience Incentive: 1.25% increase for each year of experience as a certified law enforcement officer, up to 15%.
