Greenville County Parks, Recreation, & Tourism is seeking dedicated, capable, and hard-working individuals to join our dynamic and award-winning team as part-time Sports Specialists. This role is perfect for sports enthusiasts who enjoy working outdoors and are passionate about providing exceptional customer service to our park visitors and program participants. As a Sports Specialist, you will have the opportunity to administer and manage youth and adult athletics programs, maintain athletic fields and facilities, set up for races and special events, and work independently in a variety of park locations across Greenville County.

The starting rate of pay for this position is $16.08 per hour.

Responsibilities
- Administer, manage, and provide leadership for youth and adult athletics programs, tournaments, races, and events.
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields and facilities for tournaments, races, and events, including trash removal, restroom maintenance, dragging and lining athletic fields, and pitcher’s mound prep.
- Work independently without supervision, often as the only staff person at a park location; responsible for opening, closing, and securing the facility at appropriate times.
- Assess situations and resolve issues in accordance with County of Greenville policies and procedures, standards of safety, and department rules.
- Use technical skills with an iPad, iOS apps, and Google Drive to manage the Athletic Department Programs, including checking in participants, inputting scores, and other various tasks.
- Supervise multiple games concurrently.
- Perform general clerical work as required, including entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the phone, etc.
- Lead and make decisions in accordance with Greenville County Rec policies, with guidance from managers and other staff.
Qualifications
- Valid SC driver's license; Employees will be required to use personal vehicle for work travel. Reimbursement is available based on criteria set forth with County of Greenville policies and procedures.
- High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.
- At least 1 year of related experience.
- Preferably 6 months of sports related experience, including scoreboard and athletic league experience and/or athletic field maintenance experience.
- Ability to provide proof of First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, or obtain it within the first 3 months of hiring.
- Availability to work at least two (2) nights per week and at least two (2) weekends per month during peak season, March-November.
- Ability to perform medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
- Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions.
