Duties Summary
Participates in the Professional Development Trainee Program for the County of Hawai‘i designed to provide on-the-job training and experience and receives training and mentorship in planning and carrying out professional activities and assignments.
There is one (1) immediate temporary full-time vacancy not-to-exceed twelve (12) months with the Hawai'i Fire Department in Hilo.
Examples of Duties
- Assists in the full cycle of grant application processes.
- Conducts research to identify potential public and private funding sources that align with the department's goals and programs and assesses the suitability of funding opportunities by considering the eligibility criteria, funding amount, and project alignment.
- Assists in the preparation of grant proposals, including drafting narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation, which may involve collecting data, consulting with program staff, and ensuring compliance with application guidelines.
- Supports the planning, development, and execution of educational and informational sessions related to grants.
- Assists in creating educational materials and presentations that inform department staff and community partners about available grants, application processes, and compliance requirements.
- Helps organize workshops, seminars, and training sessions, which may involve logistical planning, communication with participants, and coordinating with guest speakers.
- Assists in updating and maintaining a database of internal and external stakeholders involved in grant activities, ensuring accurate and up-to-date contact information and roles.
- Assists in monitoring grant-funded projects to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
- Learns and helps to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations related to grant funding.
- Assists in the preparation of required reports, including financial and programmatic reports, to demonstrate compliance and progress toward grant objectives.
- Helps to identify potential compliance issues and working with senior staff to develop corrective action plans.
- Helps maintain and develop relationships with various organizations, including government agencies, non-profits, and private funders.
- Assists in regular communication with funding agencies and partners to keep them informed of project progress and opportunities.
- Attends meetings, workshops, and conferences to network with potential funders and partners, representing the department and learning about new funding opportunities.
- Handles inquiries from staff, community partners, and funding agencies regarding grant opportunities and processes.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations to communicate grant-related activities and outcomes to department leadership.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Training and Experience:
- an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, political science, sociology, or a related field (scan and attach a copy of your official college transcript to your application), and
- possession of a valid State of Hawai‘i Driver License (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver license at time of filing. (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire.)
Note: Only associate's degrees from an accredited college or university will be accepted.
