General Statement of Duties


Closing Date: This position closes on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Performs local pretrial investigations, supervision, and case management duties and/or local probation supervision and case management duties in the Community Corrections Program in accordance with best practices; does related work as required.


Essential Duties


An employee in this class may perform pretrial investigations, pretrial supervision and/or may supervise a caseload of court-referred individuals on community supervision. Pretrial/Probation Officers utilize effective communication skills and assessments to engage individuals in services and to enhance motivation for change. An employee operates within best practices for Community Corrections and in accordance with Program and DCJS standards. General supervision and guidance are received from a Pretrial/Probation Unit Supervisor or Senior Management Specialist/Probation Services Supervisor.

Examples of work include: supervises a caseload of court-ordered adult individuals according to client risks and needs; conducts intakes, interviews and assessments; conducts pretrial interviews and/or investigations and makes bond recommendations to the Court based on a validated risk assessment; monitors and supervises conditions ordered by the Court; develops a success plan to address criminogenic needs; refers individuals to, and consults with community service and treatment providers to assess the individual's needs and monitor progress; directly observes and tests individuals on supervision for alcohol and illegal substances; monitors their progress with court ordered conditions and success plan goals; performs crisis intervention as necessary; enters documentation on each individual in the case management database and files paperwork in hardcopy file; corresponds with and testifies in court regarding supervision status (compliance or non-compliance); monitors payments of program and court fees; supervises assigned student interns; performs related work as assigned;

Supervises all individuals in accordance with Evidence Based Practices; adheres to supervision guidelines and standards set forth by the Henrico Community Corrections Program and the Department of Criminal Justice Services. Provides assessments, referrals and coordination of services with community based agencies. Creates, implements and monitors success plans of the individuals being supervised. Utilizes effective communication skills to enhance motivation to change. Submits written reports and provides verbal testimony to courts regarding the status of the person on supervision. Communicates both orally and in writing with other community corrections programs regarding shared persons on supervision. Maintains files and computer database management system with documentation of all contacts and correspondence.

Additional Information


Flexible work schedule to meet department needs is required. This position will work primarily with probation case management and specialty dockets.

A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.

This position is a 3-year grant funded position.
