The successful candidate will assist the County Attorney in providing a wide range of in-house legal services, primarily to the Division of Recreation and Parks and the Departments of Community Revitalization, General Services, and Information Technology, but also to the Board of Supervisors and other County agencies, boards, and commissions.Specific job duties may vary depending on the successful candidate’s experience and interest but are expected to include advising on matters of land use, code enforcement, and housing, including the development of ordinances and policies, and appearing before the Board of Zoning Appeals and courts to enforce County ordinances and represent the County in land use-related litigation. In addition, the successful candidate may expect opportunities to draft contracts and negotiate transactions advancing the County’s goals in housing, land use, and real estate. The successful candidate will enjoy independent, self-directed work and will directly manage client relationships.The ideal candidate will possess outstanding advocacy and communication skills, exhibit good professional judgment, and have a proven track record of working cooperatively and effectively in a team-based environment. Applicants should have a strong academic background, excellent research and writing skills, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, public officials and the general public, and a desire to serve the community.Minimum QualificationsFor a Senior Assistant County Attorney : Graduation from an accredited school of law and six (6) years of experience in the practice of law, preferably with one (1) additional year of experience directly related to area of responsibility, and including some supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (HP.39 $111,133 - $204,434)For an Assistant County Attorney III : Graduation from an accredited school of law and five (5) years of experience in the practice of law, preferably with one (1) additional year of experience directly related to area of responsibility, and including some supervisory experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (HP.37 $101,185 - $186,135)For an Assistant County Attorney II : Graduation from an accredited school of law and two (2) years of experience in the practice of law, preferably with one (1) additional year of experience directly related to area of responsibility; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. (HP.35 $92,128 - $169,474)For an Assistant County Attorney I : Graduation from an accredited school of law and preferably with one (1) year of experience directly related to area of responsibility; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
