• Considerable knowledge of the practices and techniques of solid waste and recycling management, facility operations and heavy equipment maintenance as related to the area of assignment
• Good knowledge of modern development, current literature and other sources of information regarding solid waste management
• Good knowledge of civil engineering practices as it relates to solid waste, convenience centers/public use areas, transfer station operation and facility maintenance
• Ability to coordinate the use of personnel, equipment, and materials in geographically separated areas
• Ability to plan and supervise the work of others
• Ability to read and interpret regulations, permits, blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and construction plans
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to keep records and to prepare reports
• Ability to direct safety and environmental compliance training
• Physical condition that will permit activities including, but not limited to, lifting, driving and working under adverse temperatures and/or weather conditions

Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by college training in engineering or chemistry, and four (4) years of work experience of an increasingly responsible nature in the area of assignment, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills, and abilities.

A minimum of a CDL Class B is required for this position. The selected candidate may be required to drive a refuse truck route in the event of a driver shortage.
