General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Provides seasonal care and maintenance for open spaces, park land and other non-sports field properties under the purview of the Division of Recreation; properly cleans and maintains equipment; may provide full-service field management, setup, marking, and repairs for all types of sports fields provided for play/events Countywide; maintains accurate records; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
General knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks; willingness to perform routine manual work; stamina; ability to understand and follow simple oral instructions; and physical conditioning that permits such activities as heavy lifting, bending, stooping and working under adverse temperatures and/or weather conditions.
Seasonal positions are available in the following areas:
Sports Fields - Duties include mowing operations including weed-eating, operation of reel and rotary mowers, turf equipment (sod cutter, spreader, and edger), multi-use vehicles for turf projects, irrigation repair, seed and fertilizer applications, topdressing, and athletic field renovation projects. Other duties include ball field maintenance of pitching mounds, batter's boxes, field marking and all other infield care responsibilities.
Ground Services - Duties include mowing, landscaping and maintenance of playgrounds, BMP's and ponds located on Recreation & Parks properties.
Support Services- Landscaping, pruning, mulching, weeding and plant maintenance. Tree work ranging from simple pruning to total removal. Asset transfers from historical items to office furniture. Event set up including the break down and set up of large tents and event accessories.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school/GED with some relevant work experience preferred; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
This is a seasonal position for the Park Services Division of the Department of Recreation and Parks. Multiple positions will be filled from this position and hiring will will begin as soon as possible and prior to the closing date.
The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Physical condition that will permit heavy lifting, loading, unloading, pushing, climbing and working under adverse temperature and/or weather conditions.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
Employment opportunities for this position may be available throughout the Division in multiple areas and/or locations.
Possession of a valid drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and proof of safe driving record preferred.
