Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics
Under the direction of a Correctional Sergeant, book, supervise, transport, receive, discharge and assure the safety and security of County jail inmates.
Education and Experience / Licenses and Other Requirements
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.
Valid California Driver's License. Incumbent must possess a California Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Correctional Officer Core Course Certificate. Incumbents may be assigned to carry firearms. Those so assigned must successfully complete the 832 PC Course within 90 days of assignment.
Supplemental Information
A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
