Summary Of Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Circuit Court Judge and Court Administrator, performs legal research and drafts legal memorandum for the Circuit and Probate Court. Reviews motions requiring legal research, reviews specified files for statutory compliance, and drafts orders for the Judge. Performs the functions of a bailiff, including maintaining courtroom security, directing parties to proper area, swearing in witnesses and jurors and providing general assistance to the Judge. Provides general assistance to court participants on scheduling and procedural information. Escorts and provides for the needs and security of jurors.
Qualifications
Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited law school or have graduated from an accredited law school.
Experience: Prefer candidates to have some related clerking or legal support experience within a law office or court.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Other Requirements: Preferably licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan. Taser and chemical irritant certification.
Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge
This is a part time, non-exempt, pay grade I position with the AFSCME Bargaining Unit. Paid holidays, Paid Time Off accrual, and enrollment in our 401a/457 Plans effective date of hire. Eligibility for all other benefits following 90 calendar days of employment and successfully passing the probationary period.
