The Kittitas County Auditor's Office is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accountant. We're hiring at either an Accountant I or Accountant II level depending on qualifications. The Accountant I is the entry-level classification in the professional series of Accountant. This position performs supervised accounting and budgeting functions as well as records management. Work involves routine operations and judgement is limited to clearly defined work procedures and priorities. The Accountant II is the second level in the professional series of Accountant. This position is expected to perform both supervised and independent professional accounting work requiring the application of intermediate to advanced accounting knowledge. Work assignments provide the opportunity for independent judgement within the framework of applicable policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Collect and process invoices and vouchers for proper coding and payment.Prepare documentation for vouchers.Routine general ledger entries and corrections.Maintain fiscal systems, documents, policies, and procedures.Monitor general correspondence; field and/or route phone calls and email inquiries.Perform record-keeping and retention duties based on state schedule and/or county policy.Monitor and audit time and attendance record keeping system.Assist Accountant II and IIIs with tasks such as payroll processing, grant, and contract management.Prepare forms, billings, reports, and documents as directed.Complete special projects as assigned.Follow the principles of accounting and financial reporting as set forth in the State of Washington Budgeting, Accounting, and Reporting System (BARS), Governmental Accounting Standards Boards (GASB), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and County policies and procedures.Assist other County departments with accounting and budgeting functions as needed and as available.Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
