Lake County Public Defenders Office mission and purpose is to ensure that every client is given effective assistance of counsel as mandated by the 6th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. To protect and defend the rights of our indigent clients accused of crimes, through effective, vigorous, compassionate, and creative legal advocacy. To provide a more holistic approach to representation, one that focuses on programs to help clients succeed well beyond the disposition of the criminal case.
Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Deputy Public Defender for County of Lake located in Lakeport, CA. The Deputy Public Defender will be responsible for representing indigent defendants in criminal cases in the Superior Court of California, County of Lake. The Deputy Public Defender will also be responsible for conducting legal research, negotiating with the District Attorney's office, and preparing and presenting cases in court.
Qualifications
- Expertise in Law, Criminal Defense, Courts, and Criminal Law
- Experience or knowledge in legal assistance
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients, witnesses, prosecutors, and judges
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Juris Doctor degree and admission to the California State Bar
- Experience as a public defender is a plus
