What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Sheriff Trainee-Promotional position at County of Lake?
Under direct supervision, attends a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) approved basic academy and successfully completes the academy’s course of study to acquire peace officer status in the State of California; learns and performs non-sworn functions and duties of the Sheriff’s Office; and performs related duties as assigned.
503.2 Promotional Only Recruitments Promotional Only Recruitments shall be used primarily for positions in which experience in a lower position is required or when filling the position internally is in the best interest of the County. On both the final filing date and the day prior to appointment the selected qualified applicant for Promotional Only Recruitments must either:
- Be employed in a permanent, interim or extra help County position
- Be eligible for a reemployment list for another position due to layoff
Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver’s License. A driver’s license from another state may be accepted at the time of hire if the applicant acknowledges his/her responsibility to acquire a California driver’s license as required by law.
Successful completion of a Basic POST academy within one (1) year of hire is required.
Must be eligible to apply for the POST basic certification upon completion of the probationary period or one (1) year following the completion date of the academy, whichever is later.
Education and Experience:
Successful applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for this position:
- Current Permanent employee of the County of Lake in any capacity.
- The equivalent of at least two (2) years of full-time, continuous County service from their most recent date of permanent hire.
OR
Three (3) years of work experience in a position requiring contact with the public is required.
OR
Graduation from a two year college with an Associate’s degree.
