Under general supervision, to provide transportation services to clients of the Behavioral Health Department; to schedule vehicles for routine maintenance and repairs; to complete administrative functions including transportation documentation, and maintenance of electronic spreadsheets; and handling business phone calls, faxes and other correspondence; and to perform related work as assigned.EXTRA HELP – TEMPORARY WORK ASSIGNMENT A temporary extra-help work assignment is determined by County of Lake personnel rules and regulations.Extra Help Employees are typically hired at an hourly rate of pay at the first step of the salary range.Extra Help Employees are paid only for hours worked.Extra Help Employees are only entitled to legally mandated benefits, which does not include paid vacation or holidays.Extra Help Employees do not have status. Extra Help Employees are temporary and may be terminated at any time based on department need.EXTRA-HELP APPOINTMENTExtra help positions are limited to no more than 25 hours per week (unless a position is considered seasonal) and no more than 900 hours per fiscal year.SEASONAL EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYEE Extra help seasonal employees must perform work tied to an actual season and will not perform any work for at least 26 consecutive weeks between seasons. The seasonal employee definition is subject to change as defined by the IRS and Affordable Care Act.Seasonal employees may work 40 hours a week for up to 26 consecutive weeks and;Seasonal employees must be terminated for the 26 weeks they are not performing any work. CalPERS RETIRED ANUITANT ASSIGNMENTA Retired Annuitant is a CalPERS retiree employed by the County on an at-will basis, with specific restrictions to protect their retirement allowance (pension payments). Examples of assignment for a Retired Annuitant are work to eliminate a backlog, work on a special project, and work that is in excess of what regular staff can do. Retired Annuitant are subject to work under Limited-Duration. The employment is expected to end once the specific task or project they were hired to complete is finished. All work restriction is governed by Government Code (G.C.) sections 21224, 21229, and 21221(h).

CLIENT SUPPORT ASSISTANTDEFINITIONUnder general supervision, to provide transportation services to clients of the Behavioral Health Department; to schedule vehicles for routine maintenance and repairs; to complete administrative functions including transportation documentation, and maintenance of electronic spreadsheets; and handling business phone calls, faxes and other correspondence; and to perform related work as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is the entry level Client Support Assistant position. Incumbents provide transportation services for the Behavioral Health Department. Incumbents may also provide clerical support for the Behavioral Health Department. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from supervisory and/or management staff, depending on areas of work assignments. Exercises no supervision over staff.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIESClass specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the scope of duties performed by employees in this class and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.Transports Behavioral Health Department clients participating in treatment or who are returning from local hospitals or other local placements.Travel to various work locations to provide services may be necessary, as well as travel for participation in meetings, conferences, planning sessions, or events, both locally and outside the county.Performs routine vehicle safety checks, including inspecting vehicle fluid levels and tire pressure.Maintains cleanliness of vehicle.Serve as transportation coordinator, including scheduling vehicles and transports for maintenance within department guidelines.Handle business phone calls, faxes and other correspondence.Provides clerical support for the Behavioral Health Department.Participates in Behavioral Health Department training, as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of: California vehicle codes and safe driving practices.Principles and methods of preventive vehicle maintenance.General knowledge of symptoms of mental illness.Basic record keeping.Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.Transportation routes within the County.Ability to: Relate well to clients with mental illness.Read, understand and follow rules, regulations, policies and memos.Safely use and operate transportation equipment.Maintain accurate records and prepare routine reports. Basic computer skills are desirable.Plan, organize, and lead activities.Work on own initiative without close supervision.Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other staff.Regularly work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.Constantly demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.Licensing and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California Driver's License, with a satisfactory driving record.Education and Experience: Three (3) years of responsible work experience is preferred.Additional directly related experience and/or education may be substituted.Special Requirements: Possession of, or ability to obtain Basic First Aid training within six (6) months from date of hire.Possession of, or ability to obtain CPR training within six (6) months from date of hire.WORKING CONDITIONS, ADA, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTSThe County of Lake is an equal opportunity employer and will comply with its obligations under the law to provide equal employment opportunities to qualified individuals with disabilities. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.Light Work: Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Disaster Service Workers: As members of the County of Lake Emergency Services Organization, all Lake County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and / or County.The contents of this class specification shall not be construed to constitute any expressed or implied warranty or guarantee, nor shall it constitute a contract of employment.
