SEASONAL PARK MAINTENANCE

General Summary

Perform routine park maintenance tasks; enforce park rules, opening and securing buildings.

Essential Functions

  • Operates tractors with mowers, riding mowers and power mower to cut grass in the county parks.
  • Trims grass, trees and shrubs with power and hand equipment.
  • Removes brush, dead trees and other debris from parks.
  • Constructs equipment and facilities, includes assembling and maintaining playground equipment, signs, parking barriers, picnic tables and grills, building equipment and structures. Utilizes a variety of power tools.
  • Cleans pavilions, restrooms and other facilities and replenishes supplies.
  • Maintain Disc Golf course- Keep fairways clean, inspect baskets, and tee pads.
  • Maintains all equipment including keeping accurate logs.
  • Prepares and paints equipment, structures, signs and other items

Other Functions

Other duties as assigned for the operation and maintenance of the park

Employment Qualifications

  • Ability to work without supervision and make decisions
  • Employees must be familiar with lawn-care equipment
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Prefer prior experience in landscaping/construction trades
  • Familiarity with farm-type tractors desired.

Walks over uneven terrain to maintain lawns and grounds and perform maintenance tasks.

Squatting, stooping, kneeling to maintain and repair facilities and equipment.

Climbing ladders in order to paint walls and ceilings, prune trees, and reach areas needing repairs.

Climbing into trucks and onto other equipment.

Lifting ability to remove trash and debris, tree limbs and other items.

Ability to lift trash barrels and load into truck

Ability to reach all areas of buildings and facilities in order to perform maintenance tasks.

Ability to operate chain saws, tree trimming equipment and mowers.

Ability to operate light trucks, tractors, and riding mowers for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:

Works outside in varying weather conditions.

Exposure to various cutting tools and equipment such as mowers, chain saws, and other power saws.

Works in all areas of Parks Department.

Works in areas with loud noise.

Exposure to equipment where risk exists of getting burned, bruised or scraped.

Exposure to environmental allergens such as grass, weeds and pollens.

Exposure to water purifying chemicals.

Contact with oil and petroleum products.

Exposure to solvents, degreasers, pesticides and herbicides.

Exposure to gases and fumes.

Works in cramped positions to perform some repair tasks.
