Attorney IV Domestic Relations Office
This is an advanced professional legal and supervisory position performing legal services as a criminal prosecutor in the office of the Domestic Relations. Work involves prosecuting cases and supervising a group of subordinate professional employees. This position includes assisting law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations and charging decisions. It also includes the prosecution of cases at all levels of the criminal system from Magisterial District Judge to Appellate level disposition. Trials before a jury or a judge are expected. This position is differentiated from similar positions in its class because of the responsibility to supervise and mentor less experienced prosecutors.
Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required.
- Performs legal research and prepares cases for trial or non-trial disposition as deemed appropriate.
- Prepares, drafts, reviews, revises and approves search warrants, arrest warrants, motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Works with law enforcement agencies during criminal investigations to guide and assist the on-going investigation.
- Prepares and presents witnesses and evidence to a county wide Grand Jury.
- Evaluates criminal cases for appropriate disposition and reviews dispositions proposed by subordinate attorneys in the office.
- Prepares and presents misdemeanor and felony cases for jury trial.
- Supervises, mentors, advises, and assists subordinate attorneys as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Attorney IV has supervisory responsibility for approximately 3-6 direct reports.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.
Education/Experience:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.)
- Member in good standing of the PA Bar.
- At least 5 years of experience as a trial attorney; including jury and non-jury trials.
