DESCRIPTION
Work in conjunction with the Transfer Station Supervisor operating the LCRMS Transfer Station located in Williamsport, PA. Responsible for the safe operation of all County equipment and waste and recyclable material collected at the facility. Individual is responsible for the safety of customers that utilize the facility. This individual works under the direct supervision of the Transfer Station Supervisor
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Primary duty to transport garbage from the LCRMS Transfer Station to the LCRMS Landfill.
- Responsible for the daily cleaning of truck and trailer.
- Able to fill in for operator and operate compaction equipment used in the waste transfer process.
- Assists operator in routing site customer traffic.
- Assists operator in maintaining compliance for all DEP site inspections.
- Assists in the coordination of weights and waste movement with the LCRMS weighmaster.
- Assists customers to properly sort recyclable material.
- Assists operator with cleaning and light maintenance around the station to maintain compliance with DEP and LCRMS policies and regulations.
- Assists with custodial duties for the restroom at the facility.
- Interacts with customers to facilitate their needs.
- Regular inspection of truck scale units, push blade and compaction equipment, greasing of rollers and maintenance of moving parts.
- Responsible for daily start-up and maintenance (greasing and fluid checks) of equipment, trailers and truck tractors.
- Communicates needs of the facility and equipment maintenance as well as needs for materials and supplies to the station operator.
- Assists with snow removal with the available equipment.
- Mowing and trimming of grass as assigned by the operator.
- Performs tasks for other RMS divisions as assigned, including but not limited to earth moving operations, waste movement operations, gas collection operations, leachate operations, recycling collection operations, recycling processing operations, transfer station processing operations, transfer station truck driving operations, support functions, etc.
- Operates in a safe manner following manufacturer’s specifications and county policies, the following CDL Class (A) vehicles: Transfer Trailer and Truck Tractor and other equipment as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Individual will be outside in all types of weather conditions. Working in and around certain types of wastes and work situations that require certain safety precautions. Individual may be subject to walking and climbing on rough and uneven terrain. Climbing up, down, and around all types of equipment. Individual may work irregular hours when required, or in an emergency situation. Includes heavy lifting of materials. Mandatory overtime is required as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2-years’ experience driving tractor/trailer.
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A, licensed to operate trucks with manual transmission and have a valid CDL medical certificate.
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing while in performance of duties per the Federal Motor Carrier Laws.
- Ability to interact with employees on all levels, customers and consulting firms.
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal English instructions.
- Performs work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate a backhoe, wheel loader, and skid steer.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check per County policy.
