- Provides counseling and guidance on an individual or group basis; supervises, counsels, supports and encourages successful completion of probation of youth and adult probationers; assesses needs and develops case plans and makes recommendations for the rehabilitation, supervision, and placement of youth and adult probationers; works in collaboration with parents, community-based organizations, local law enforcement agencies, school districts, and other governmental agencies regarding the progress and needs of probationers.
- Continually evaluates performance of probationers; develops and makes recommendations for rehabilitation programs; conducts arrests, takes into custody, and transports persons found to be in violation of terms of probation; assists with intake assignments from law enforcement; collects urine samples for drug testing; participates in surveillance and undercover operations; conducts searches of probationers and property; execute search warrants.
- Performs delinquency prevention duties including crisis intervention, counseling, speaking, and working with local agencies and groups; assist mental health staff with the preparation and presentation of various classes, including parenting and drug abuse classes; may provide some work direction and training for other staff.
- Assists with the conduct of pre-court case investigations; prepares petitions, court reports, and social case histories as necessary; assists with the development and presentation of evidence in cases where trials have been requested; researches case law and interprets statutes; make periodic reports to the court of the progress, development and needs of probationers; inform the court of violations of probationers and recommend action; may make recommendations to dismiss cases when satisfactory adjustments or restitution has been completed.
- Stays current with knowledge related to public safety by attending professional conferences and in-service education programs, as well as by reviewing information obtained from Department memoranda, staff meetings and professional publications to attain and maintain public safety-related knowledge and skills and determine the impact of developments and change on providing service excellence.

- Successful completion of a POST-approved comprehensive background investigation is required, including a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, psychological examination, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances.

PLACEMENT ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST:
The Civil Service Commission may limit the number of qualified applicants eligible to participate in the examination process. If two or more candidates have the same total final score on an examination, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in that portion of the examination which has the greatest weight. The names of two or more eligibles having final ratings which are identical shall be grouped on the eligible list as tie names with equal rank for certification and appointment purposes. Candidates who are successful in all phases of the examination process will be placed on an eligible list, in rank order based on a calculation of their total score from the examination process. The eligible list established by this recruitment will be active for a minimum of six (6) months or one (1) year, unless otherwise determined by the Director pursuant to section 6-4 (b) and may be extended for up to an additional year by the Commission.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
As a condition of employment with the County of Madera, a candidate must submit to a Tuberculosis (TB) screening, and related follow up testing as necessary.
