PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE-HIV Programs
Community Health – MCHD N10

Division Director MNA
Under the supervision of the Division Director, participates in the operation of assigned health department program or clinics to promote health and wellness for clients of the department. Maintains patient records and program activity records and prepares required reports.
1. Conducts and participates in health clinics or programs at various locations in the County. Conducts health assessments for assignments in various clinics, including conducting physical assessments, obtaining blood pressure, temperature, measurements, and other data and developing information on health history, diet history, and family health status. Assists Medical Provider carry out procedures in designated clinics. Administers immunizations, educates clients on potential side effects, and monitors for adverse reaction. Reads and interprets lab reports, administers a variety of CLIA-waived laboratory tests, and performs a variety of related procedures in the clinics. Records patient progress and assess emotional and social needs.
2. Provides education to clients and families relative to nutrition, health care, prenatal care, breastfeeding, safety, substance abuse, communicable diseases and other subjects as needed by client.
3. Provides home visits for high risk newborn infants, pregnant women and other clients.
4. Completes assessments for families with special health needs and makes referrals to other health care professionals as appropriate.
5. Participates in the operation of the clinics by scheduling and delegating activities to support staff. Assists with preparing and monitoring the inventory of supplies. May be assigned responsibility for organizing and implementing a program clinic, including satellite immunization clinics.
6. Reviews documentation in charts on periodic basis to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations for the specific program area.
7. Assesses clients’ health history, diet history, and anthropometric measurements for certification of eligibility. Works with support staff, funding agencies, and clients regarding application process for various programs.
8. Assesses various tests and screening results and correlates them with health history and physical assessment.
9. Interprets health screening findings to the family and makes appropriate referrals, utilizing an up-to-date list of resources in the County. Contacts local health providers and community agencies to make referrals.
10. Initiates, maintains, and updates various records, and prepares reports of work activities for departmental administrators, funding agencies, and the Board of Health.
11. Participates in program planning and development through involvement of department and community committees.
12. Represents the department at various community activities related to the promotion of heath and the prevention of disease.
13. Manage inventory and ordering, cleaning, and stocking rooms.
14. Perform weekly quality control on HIV diagnostic tests.
15. Application of fluoride varnish.
16. May serve as a Certified Immunization Nurse Educator, which includes providing in-service training on immunizations to private providers. Assist with the development of Immunization Action Plan. Contacts individuals behind in immunizations, assists with the updating of information at nurse’s station with the latest information on immunizations, and otherwise assists in meeting State requirements.
17. Sets up and takes down tables and chairs at clinics.
18. Function in a response capacity to public health emergencies consistent with knowledge, skills, experience and professional licensure/certification. Acquire knowledge to be competent in appropriate response roles.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Experience: One year of nursing experience.

· Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
· Valid MI Driver’s License
· Hepatitis B Vaccination
· CPR Certification
· OSHA Training

Working Conditions:
· Works in office conditions and travels throughout the County to work in clinics and homes in varying types of weather. Travel may include remote locations, unhealthy living conditions, and homes with domestic violence.
· When working in other locations, environment may: be noisy, have potential for exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and second-hand smoke; long periods of standing that may occur in inclement weather; and potential exposure to pets.
· May be required to visit the Marquette County Jail when drawing court ordered labs on inmates.
· Exposure to communicable diseases, blood, and other bodily fluids.
