Department of Personnel Services - Human Resources Student Intern
Department of Public Works - Civil Engineer Student Intern
Positions in this class participate in an internship program which offers practical work experience and training in various work assignments relative to the intern's field of study or career interest. This position performs a variety of duties, including research on any projects as may be assigned by the sponsoring department, may attend business meetings to which the incumbent is invited, and, as applicable, will "shadow" staff in order to experience real-time, real-life government work.
Eligibility: Current students in high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs, or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Must be 16 years of age or older. Must provide documentation verifying proof of age 16 by first day of employment.

This position performs a variety of duties, including research on any projects as may be assigned by the sponsoring department, may attend business meetings to which the incumbent is invited, and, as applicable, will "shadow" staff in order to experience real time, real life government work. Interns should:
- Adhere to County policies, procedures and rules governing professional behavior.
- Be punctual, and work the required number of hours at times agreed to by the intern and supervisor.
- Notify their supervisor if they are unable to attend work as planned.
- Behave and dress appropriately in the workplace.
- Respect the confidentiality of the workplace and any work completed that is of a confidential nature.
- If things are slow, take initiative and volunteer for additional tasks or other work.
- Discuss any problems with their supervisor and, if necessary, with the Departmental Personnel Officer and/or the Department of Personnel Services.
- Complete Violence in the Workplace Prevention Training.
- Follow all safety procedures.
- Report any workplace injuries to their supervisor immediately.
Current students enrolled in an accredited high school, college (including 4 year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade schools; advanced technical degree programs, or another qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate on a full time or half-time basis.
Interns must be a registered full-time or part-time student in good standing and intend to continue their education in the next regular semester or quarter.
16 years of age or older. Must provide documentation verifying proof of age 16 by first day of employment.
Maui County residency is required.
