Intake Program Officer
Starting Salary: $48,143.29 per year / $24.69 per hour
Position Schedule: Monday – Friday; 8 am – 4:30 pm (Full Time)
Position Summary
The Intake Program Officer is a position dedicated to front end juvenile justice needs (initial court hearings, Social Investigation Reports and diversion services), Electronic Monitoring (adult and juvenile) and overall programming needs of the department (adult and juvenile). This position will conduct programming within the department specific to evidence-based programs (CCP, MRT), best practices, mediation and conflict-resolution, and restorative justice. This position does not carry a formal client caseload.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct informal conferences for juvenile diversion clients. Including Restorative Justice (RJ) Conferences.
- Supervise minors on informal supervision.
- Utilize Core Correctional Practices to impact effective change in clients.
- Follow up on community referrals for juvenile diversion clients.
- Be the liaison for the partnership with School Resource Officer on the Youth Diversion Collaboration.
- Interview minors in secure detention to complete a risk assessment.
- Write a Detention Assessment Report for the Court to help determine appropriateness for juvenile Pre-Trial release.
- Attend Juvenile Detention Hearings on new cases.
- Attend Juvenile Pre-Trial Hearings on new cases.
- Provide monitoring of minors released on Pre-Dispositional Orders.
- Write initial Social Investigation Reports on all new juvenile clients.
- Supervise and monitor clients (adult and juvenile) placed on home confinement/electronic monitoring.
- Conduct initial EM/HC intake interviews and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Attend all court hearings of assigned EM/HC cases as needed.
- Provide the court with updated reports as to compliance of supervised EM/HC clients.
- Carry on call EM/HC phone, responding to any emergency situations (cut bracelet/warrants)
- Facilitates all departmental MRT groups (adult and juvenile)
- Document all MRT information into each client’s case notes
- Keep officers apprised of client’s attendance, conduct, success, completion of program
- Collaborates with external partners to enhance evidence-based programming for the department. Research most up to date programming needs for the department (evidence based, best practice)
- Assists CCP Coach when needed on peer mentoring CCP skills (possible feedback with overflow needs)
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of the criminal justice system including federal, state, local laws and ordinances related to the area of assignment.
- Strong understanding of the principles of human behavior, behavior modification techniques (i.e., MRT, Core Correctional Practices, etc.), Social Learning Theory and Motivational Interviewing.
- Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments with a minimum of direction.
- Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Able to prepare moderately complex documents utilizing various computer applications related to work. As well as operating and routine maintenance of general office machines such as copies, facsimile machines, telephone systems, and two-way radio base stations.
- Strong knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal setting and implementation.
- Ability to research, compile and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to use a computer daily
- Ability to effectively communicate daily
- Ability to work in a diverse setting while at times under pressure
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Ability to work with high level of accuracy under short deadlines
- Ability to work non-traditional hours – weekends or evening hours, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, or a related field.
- Valid Illinois driver's license
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Any sworn staff/probation officer employed by the Department of Court Services and Probation shall be a citizen of the United States and be a resident of the State of Illinois within 90 days, as established by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, of the date of appointment.
