What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victims’ Rights Advocate position at County of Midland, Michigan?
Under the supervision of the Victims’ Rights Coordinator, assists in administering the victims’ rights functions of the department. Ensures victims are notified of their rights as required by law. Responds to inquiries regarding the program, assists victims in obtaining compensation from the State, and ensures that victims are notified of court events pertaining to their case. Escorts victims to and from interviews and court proceedings, and conducts interviews to provide them with procedural advice and emotional support.
Associate’s Degree or equivalent and two years of experience in a criminal justice, or court environment. Valid Michigan Driver’s license. Knowledge of the principles and practices of general office procedures and preparing legal documents. Ability to learn local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing the operations of victims’ rights. Ability to learn the State of Michigan court system procedures and practices as they relate to victims’ rights. Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with County employees, contractors to the County, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, and the public.
Current hourly range starting at $21.33/hr progressing to $27.79/hr (7-year progression) with a competitive fringe benefit package.
