The Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disabilities & Veterans Services is seeking a full-time Assistant Veterans Services Officer to assist veterans in obtaining benefits and services to which they are entitled. Veterans Service Officers work with Monmouth County Veterans and their families to file claims for compensation and pension benefits, provide information on other benefit eligibility, and connect veterans to community resources. The VSO will work in collaboration with the Division staff to obtain related aging & disability services for which the veteran is eligible.
Responsibilities-
• Assists veterans and their families in creating a claim, obtaining documentation, and submitting to the Veterans Administration.
• Prepares necessary forms including appeals.
• Enters required documents into the VA system.
• Helps veterans connect to other government and private organizations.
• Provides information to the public on services available to veterans and their families.
Requirements-
• Valid NJ driver’s license required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to assist the public.
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to create accurate reports and submit in a timely manner.
• Ability to analyze and interpret national, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies dealing with veterans’ rights and apply them to specific cases.
• Capable of passing accreditation exams.
• Ability to utilize various computer programs.
